FunDza loves Long story SHORT, a Kajeno Media project that aims to ignite a passion for African literature through a series of live readings at community libraries.
At the Long story SHORT events a capable actor/actress reads a short story or excerpt of a novel by an African writer for later packaging into literary podcasts for mobile & online platforms.
The first instalment of Long story SHORT in 2015 has been enabled by the Department of Arts and Culture’s Mzansi Golden Economy Fund.
Stories have been curated by award-winning African literature star Yewande Omotoso.
You can find the podcasts on YouTube and learn more about this project via their Facebook Page.
Here is an excerpt from an article written by by Kutullo Madisha for the New Age.
“Since its origin in March, the project has curated stories written by some of Africa’s brightest writing talent, which have been read by equally talented story tellers.
It has seen libraries being turned into vibrant spaces celebrating African literature with well known artists such as Abena Ayivor and Quanita Adams already having read stories by some of Africa’s most acclaimed writers. The podcasts are then shared across different online and mobile platforms.
“We are inspired by all the audiences who continue to come out to a reading once a month in order to learn more about Africa’s illustrious literary heritage,” executive producer Kgauhelo Dube said.”
