Illustrator Sandy Mitchell has spent her 67 minutes for Mandela’s Day illustrating one of FunDza’s short stories: Extra Lessons.
Extra Lessons, by popular teen writer Michelle Faure, will start being serialised on the FunDza mobi network on 10 August, in BOTH English and isiZulu. It is the second of FunDza’s short stories to get translated into isiZulu. FunDza plans to be able to deliver more content in other SA languages in the future.
Sandy has been a FunDza supporter since the organisation first started. And, FunDza greatly appreciates the value that her illustration will add to our reader experience on our mobi network.
Sandy’s official career as an illustrator began when she wrote and illustrated Wild Iris Herbal Handbook in 2003. This drew on her experience of owning a herb nursery in Observatory, Cape Town.
She has also illustrated for various publishers, including Mmegi, Cambridge University Press, Via Afrika and Shuter and Shooter. Other work has included illustration for t-shirts, murals, business cards, poster, fliers and websites.
