We are very excited to announce that for the President’s next Virtual Reading Club the book being discussed is to be found on FunDza’s site. The Virtual Reading Club is run by the National Education Collaboration Trust’s National Reading Coalition, of which FunDza is a community partner.

The book, May I have this dance, is the courageous and moving story of Connie Ngcaba. Connie grew up in the Eastern Cape where she became a nurse and a community figurehead – fighting against the injustices of apartheid. She was detained without trial at the age of 57. May I have this Dance is a story of the strength of family ties, and the triumph of Connie’s love for her husband and children.

Part 2 is called Life Lessons and gives Connie’s advice, insights and wisdom on life’s challenges from Being a Wife, a Man, a Father to Raising a Family and How to Create a Legacy. You can read it here.

The President’s virtual reading club is held regularly to promote the love of reading, and in the past well-known South Africans have discussed books such as The longest march by Fred Khumalo, The way I see it by Lerato Tshabalala and The wretched of the earth by Frantz Fanon. Participants are welcome to put in their own questions and reflections during the discussion by the invited guests.

This next event is happening on the 30 September from 4.30-6.30pm. To join please find the invitation here.

And here is the link to the book again – May I have this dance – read and enjoy!
