FunDza is very proud to be hosting the book Mobinomics – written by Alan Knott-Craig jr with Gus Silber – on its Mxit portal.
Mobinomics tells the story of how the rise of the mobile phone is opening the gateway to a brave new world of communication. Currently more than 90% of South Africans own a mobile phone – and these have become not just tools to connect but also tools of education, entrepreneurship, trade, empowerment, activism and upliftment.
Mobinomics is the story of the biggest and fastest-growing social network in Africa. A network that has grown from its roots on the Cape Flats townships to becoming a part of the lives of more than 50 million users in 120 countries, who send more than 23 billion messages a month.
It is the story of Mxit: a community of millions, a cultural force with its own economy, its own infrastructure, its own language and its own traditions.
FunDza is delighted to be hosting the book, especially as it can see what a valuable tool Mxit can be in creating communities. FunDza’s outreach programme ‘Growing communities of readers’ uses a Mxit portal to provide reading content to teens and young adults who don’t have easy access to literature in other forms. Through this FunDza is making reading for pleasure a daily activity for thousands of young people across South Africa. FunDza’s team is also featured in Chapter 10 of Mobinomics – ‘M’ is for ‘literature’!
Find Mobinomics in FunDza’s new section for paid-for content, called ‘Big Reads’. The mobi-book at a total of 1950 moola or R19.50, costs an approximate 10% of its recommended retail price!
Go to www.mxit.com to download Mxit as an application. Then make ‘contacts’ with FunDza’s Mxit portal at: Tradepost > Mxit Reach > mobiBooks > FunDza (or request the contact app ‘fundza’).
