A highlight this month is having author Jayne Bauling visit us on 11 and 12 August. Jayne has written extensively for FunDza’s mobi network and is also the author of a number of books published by Cover2Cover Books which are distributed to the beneficiary groups in FunDza’s Popularising Reading programme. She’s the author of Soccer Secrets in the Harmony High series, and she’s writing a trilogy under the ‘Soccer Seasons’ series banner. The first of these Playmaker is out out now, while the next one – Offside – will be released and delivered to eager readers early next year. The third book in the series will come out in mid-2016.
11 August: In the morning Nandi and Dorothy visit readers at Christel House, with author Jayne Bauling. In the afternoon, Nandi, Dorothy, Ndibulele join Jayne to hand over a donation of books to Ubuntu Soccer.
12 August: Ndibulele, Zimkhitha join Jayne Bauling for a celebration of reading FunDza books and stories at Silikamva High School in Hout Bay.
12 August: Winners of the ‘Noem My Skollie’ competition are announced!
13 August: Sonja and Nandi will be hosting a Writing Good Essays workshop with learners from Kwena Reading Club in Mfuleni.
16 August: Sonja is at False Bay College, Khayelitsha, to run a Reading for Enjoyment workshop.
17 August: Mignon goes to Swellendam to meet up with her ‘Think-Tank’ group as part of the TSIBA Income Generation course for NGOs.
18 August: Nandi goes to the Milnerton Library Auditorium for a reading competition.
19 August: Sonja represents FunDza at the Reading Campaign Awards event at False Bay College, Fish Hoek. FunDza will be giving a tablet to the winner of the campaign and book prizes to other runners-up.
20 August: The five FunDza trustees will be having their first meeting as a newly-constituted group.
23 August: Sonja runs another Reading for Enjoyment session at False Bay College, Khayelitsha.
25 August: Sonja hosts at Branding Me workshop at Etafeni community centre in Nyanga.
27 August: FunDza will be piloting a new version of the Writing Me workshop with Ikamva Youth, in Makhaza.
30 August: Sonja is at False Bay College, Khayelitsha, with a Reading for Enjoyment workshop.
