Tamica Mopp – Editing Intern.

Among the new hires was a not so new face: Tamica Mopp!

Tamica had worked at FunDza previously but had left due to personal and study commitments. She’s back with loads of ideas, and so much passion too. Previously she’d been running the children’s story section and handling the FunDza Fanz Facebook group (a closed group of FunDza Fanz writers)… and she’ll be taking these over again now, as well as doing general Fanz editing, researching and writing blogs, and – we’re sure – many other things too!

Tamica describes herself as follows:

I’m Tamica Mopp. A writer and future teacher. I am 23 and from Steenberg, Cape Town.

I have spent a year away from FunDza, and as they say, absence makes the heart grow fonder! I truly missed being at FunDza based here in Muizenberg, editing stories and writing blogs. It is such a joy to be back!

I missed the Fanz stories I used to edit, Chireki and many others! I missed giving my input to young writers and facilitating at schools. I also missed the interesting chats with my colleagues on a daily basis and the family-orientated environment. All the nostalgia brought me back, and I truly believe if you’re meant to be somewhere you will find your way back there again. I feel very blessed, because not many can truly say their work is their passion.

During my time away, I have learned a lot about myself, how to handle pressure, deal with conflict and think swiftly on my feet. From a work perspective I was working in sales – a totally different space to that of the editing world. The experience definitely taught me endurance… But it is also a world I never want to go back to!

I have completed my N5 Business Management course at False Bay College and I run a small tutoring business. Currently, I am a part-time UNISA Bachelor of Education student. I am busy writing a short story, too – with a Kaapse theme – so keep an eye out for it!

2020 is going to be a great year! Not only because it marks the start of a new decade but simply because my mindset has changed. I have a deeper level of faith. I have seen my God do mighty and great things. I have seen my God remain faithful even when I was not. I have grown and am still growing into the woman I always envisioned when I was a little girl. That woman is brave and she is fearless!

#Happy2020

Happy happy to you too, Tamica! Lovely to have you back with us!
