On Friday 14th August FunDza was invited to be part of the Sithembele Matiso Library Launch in New Crossroads, Nyanga.

The launch was organised by Langa Sibhozo from AFDA (African Footprint Development Agency) in partnership with Sithembele Matiso school and Kupanda Communications.

Sithembele Matiso recently became one of FunDza’s beneficiaries which means that now their new library will be stocked with some exciting titles supplied by FunDza as part of its Popularising Reading programme.

It was a very festive event with interesting and entertaining contributions from Mr Dairmaid Wessels (Libraries District Manager) and Glen van Harte (Department of Education). There was a lot of laughter in response to their refreshingly informal and anecdotal stories. There was also some great music from a small brass band, the school choir, and a very talented and brave Grade 9 learner who played the violin.

Ros Haden, FunDza’s content developer, introduced FunDza’s mobi ‘library on a cellphone’ and gave the learners a taste of the exciting stories that they can find in it. She encouraged them to use the library as a fantastic resource where they can read for pleasure 24/7!

Langa Sibhozo told the learners just how important their new library was. He is as passionate about reading as we are at FunDza and his feelings are clear when he writes:

“You see, what I want to create here is an unprecedented world of the imagination…The library is aimed at being a hub of learning and teaching and encouraging more learners to value the importance of reading. The intent is to grow the zeal of picking up a book and reading, inspiring a generation of readers who will become South African innovators and thinkers…”

There will be a launch at the library of the new title in Cover2Cover’s Harmony High series, Soccer Secrets (which the school will receive as part of FunDza’s beneficiary programme) on Heritage Day where the author, Jayne Bauling, will be sharing her story.

We are so looking forward to being part of this event and continuing to help Sithembele Matiso grow their library with relevant and ‘readalicious’ new titles that will get their learners hooked on reading.
