The FunDza Literacy Trust has recently secured space on two new mobile platforms through which it plans to reach new audiences and grow new communities of young readers.
Today, FunDza launches its channel on Bozza and soon it will be launching on PEPtxt too!
About Bozza
Bozza provides space for users to access music, entertainment, news, football, celebs, poetry and literature from the African continent. The app is free to download, the content is free and its all local. Data charges do apply when downloading the app, though.
Bozza aims to provide quality content that is locally-generated and contextually relevant for the African market. It’s service is aimed at feature phones, with plans to up scale to smart phones soon. The application features music, videos, poetry and more from across Africa.
The word ‘bozza’ is slang for boss and is colloquially used to describe someone who owns his/her dream, overcomes obstacles no matter what and is in control of their life. That’s exactly what Emma Kaye, Founder and CEO of Bozza, has done.
Says Kaye: “Mobile has huge socio-economic, educational, commercial, societal and individual significance. Emerging economies have been hugely resourceful in using mobility in socio-economically important ways, to empower micro enterprises. By embracing mobility as a content delivery platform, emerging countries or continents can leapfrog developed economies, establishing a unique societal brand in a vibrant new industry”.
FunDza on Bozza
FunDza plans to release short stories in serial format – with a new chapter uploaded each day at 2pm. Full stories will be archived at the end of each week in an “omnibus”.
The stories have been commissioned by FunDza to appeal to our teen and young adult readers. They are written by some of Southern Africa’s top writing talent. The stories are local and reflect the lives of many of our readers who are living in low-income communities around South Africa. The language is relatively easy to understand and the plots are designed to have a high interest level to hook readers in and keep them “clicking for more”!
FunDza’s first story to be released on Bozza is “Stubborn Love” by acclaimed SA author, Tracey Farren. Early readers of the story have said:
“Wow – this was was amazing. What a happy ending!” – Saine
“Nice story with a happy ending for Mzi.” – Peter
“Wow, that’s wonderful.” – Aneave
“Aaaaaaawh so sweet!” – Shaz
