FunDza’s reach has spread to PE! Dorothy Dyer, FunDza’s literacy specialist, spoke at the Reading Association of South Africa’s AGM in Port Elizabeth last week. Click here to view a copy of her presentation about FunDza and what the organisation is doing to build a culture of reading among teens and young adults in South Africa.
She was also lucky to visit two of the schools – and meet some of the avid readers – that are registered for FunDza’s Popularising Reading beneficiary programme: Bethelsdorp Comprehensive and Paterson High.
Many of the learners at these two schools had already read the three titles in the Harmony High series and were keen for more! Dorothy was able to introduce them to FunDza’s exciting mobi network which publishes a new story each week and which provides access to a growing virtual library of content.
The stories are mostly local – by well-known authors or young emerging writers. And, readers can participate too by leaving comments on the stories, entering competitions or even getting their own work published.
