FunDza ran a “Branding Me” writing workshop at the Etafeni Centre in Nyanga township on 16 March 2015. The workshop was for participants in Etafeni’s “Fit for Life” programme and focused on building skills on how to ‘brand’ yourself in job interviews and application letters. Through the workshop participants explored their hard and soft skills and learned new vocabulary to help them talk and write about themselves and past experiences with confidence. It was wonderful to witness participants taking their their life experiences and turning them into powerful stories that have application in the world of work.
Participants enjoyed playing language games as well as getting down to writing an application letter.
Feedback on the workshop was hugely positive. In the words of some of the participants:
“It motivated me. I now feel positive and would love to publish my story.”
“I learnt new words I didn’t know and their definitions.”
“It helped me know myself and boosted my confidence.”
“It showed me a professional way of writing an application letter and analysing a job advert.”
“I learnt that sometimes you can take long to know what your passion is in life.”
“I got confidence to be something in life.”
