This week Zimkhitha Mlanzeli, author of the latest book in the Harmony High series Blood Ties, visited one of our beneficiaries, Iliso Care Society in Khayelitsha to chat about the writing of her new book Blood Ties.
Zimkhitha said that she was a little skeptical, due to a previous visit at a reading club in Khayelitsha where “the children weren’t really all that engaged and it ended up being a talk rather than a discussion with very few questions being asked. This was completely different! We ended up having a whole question and answer session. There was such a feeling of being connected.”
Mboneleli Girana reports that the children in the reading club have ‘responded amazingly to the session and even the more lazy ones now are motivated and want to improve.’
One of the members, Khanya, had even read Blood Ties three times and was very, very keen to write a book review.
