On Friday 23rd November, FunDza will be publishing another FIRST on the FunDza mobi site. It is our FIRST commissioned short story written isiXhosa and then translated into English. It is our FIRST story by Cebisa Zono, an exceptional young writer from the Eastern Cape. And it is our FIRST story about a gay male relationship. UThobani noLizo tells the story of two young gay men who struggle to keep their love alive in rural South Africa.
Cebisa Zono was introduced to FunDza through the Kay Mason Foundation that runs the Lulutho community project in the Eastern Cape. Founder of the project, and best-selling author, Richard Mason, recognised Cebisa’s talent and offered the 22 year old writer a Lulutho fellowship. Cebisa, who was born in Tunga village, Nqamakwe, draws his inspiration from the Eastern Cape and is working on his first novel in isiXhosa.
FunDza is so excited to have Cebisa join our team of writers. He has worked with another of FunDza’s very talented young writers, Sonwabiso Ngcowa, in developing the short story: UThobani noLizo. This is also the FIRST story Cebisa has had published! BIG UP 2 DA Author!!!
Cebisa has a great talent for words and stories. I see this as the beginning of a brilliant literary career. Hooray for Mr. Zono!
