Acclaimed local writer Tracey Farren has written a short mobi-story – Stubborn Love – for FunDza’s mobi network.
In the story, Mzi is in love with his best friend’s talented sister Anela who longs to showcase her remarkable voice in a Cape Town club. But when she gets into trouble and is made false promises of stardom by the dangerous Raynard, what lengths will Mzi go to to rescue her and prove his devotion and love…
Tracey started writing as a freelance journalist, publishing on a range of social issues before turning to fiction. In 2008, she published her first novel, Whiplash (Modjaji books). She won a White Ribbon Award from Women Demand Dignity and Whiplash was short listed for the Sunday Times Fiction Award. Tracey then wrote Whiplash as a film script under the auspices of the National Film and Video Foundation.
In 2011 she released her second novel, Snake. According to Janet van Eeden, “This novel is well worth reading and it adds merit to Farren’s reputation as a writer of note in this country.”
Stubborn Love will be released in serial format – a chapter a day – on the FunDza mobi network, which includes both the FunDza mobi site (designed for easy reading on a cellphone screen) and the FunDza Mxit portal (go to: Mxit > Tradepost > Mxit Reach > Mobi-Books > FunDza). The serialisation starts 29 January. New chapters go live at one minute past midnight!
