LITASA – the Literacy Association of South Africa – has always been a great supporter and friend of FunDza, since our first presentation at one of their conferences 10 years ago. Since then their conferences have been a highlight of our annual calendars as they are always well organised, inspiring and informative.

Last year the conference was completely online. This year LITASA managed to run an impressive hybrid conference with delegates in Durban as well as an online option. FunDza participated virtually with two presentations being broadcast for online participants. (We did get FOMO from not being there in person!)

Dorothy Dyer, programme manager for FunDza, presented findings from FunDza’s 2020 Annual Reader Survey (watch it here). Ros Haden, fiction content manager, provided an overview of FunDza’s pilot Fellowship programme, which is now two-thirds of the way through its inaugural year (watch it here).

It was also fantastic to get a chance to see our colleagues and friends presenting their important work in the literacy space. You can also view the full list of online talks here.

Finally, there is nothing better than to receive recognition for the work that you do. We were hugely honoured to have received LITASA’s Award for our Significant Contribution to literacy in South Africa. See us accepting the award here. Thank you LITASA!
